Cop, Shibir man injured in \\\'gunfight\\\'

A cop and an activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir were injured by bullets in a ‘gunfight’ between police and Jamaat-Shibir men at Jhumjhumpur Moylakhana in Jessore Sadar upazila on Tuesday. The injured were identified as Bulbul, 28, a constable at Kotwali Police Station in Jessore municipality and Mushayeed Hossain, 28, an activist of Fatehpur union unit Shibir. Emdadul Haque, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said acting on a tip-off that a group of Jamaat-Shibir men were gathering at Jhumjhumpur a police team went there around 3:30 am. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the Jamaat-Shibir men opened fire on them, prompting police to fire back that triggered a gunfight. Constable Bulbul and Shibir activist Mushayeed were injured in the line of fire. Both were rushed to Jessore 250-bed General Hospital. Police arrested two Jamaat-Shibir men from the spot while the others managed to escape. One shutter gun and one round of bullet were recovered from the spot, according to UNB.
