Cop shot dead by colleague in city

A police constable was shot dead by his colleague in Baridhara diplomatic zone of the capital on Saturday midnight.
The deceased was Monirul. However, it could not be known why his colleague shot him.
Police detained constable Kawsar Ali in connection with the shooting and cordoned off the area.
Both the policemen were on duty in front of the Palestinian Embassy in Dhaka.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage revealed more details of the violent shooting.
The footage shows Constable Kawsar and his colleague Monirul engaged in a heated altercation.
At one point, Monirul appears to show Kawsar a duty notebook. Almost instantly, Kawsar is seen firing at Monirul.
Monirul immediately fell on the road. Then, as seen in the footage, Kawsar fired a few more bullets directly at him.
As Monirul's body became motionless, Kawsar calmly took his gun and moved away a few steps.
Meanwhile, police said they needed more time to find out the motive behind the killing.
Mahid Uddin, additional commissioner (crime and operations) at Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said, "In primary interrogation, we did not find any previous rift between constables Monirul and Kawsar."
"We are yet to ascertain what initiated their altercation yesterday (Saturday) night," he added.
"We believe he [Kawsar] was mentally stressed," the police officer said, adding that they would be able to know the reason for the murder by interrogating the accused after he settles down mentally in a day or two.
Constable Kawsar fired eight/nine rounds of bullets, he said, replying to another query.
Monirul's brother Mahbubul Haque, also a police constable, filed a murder case with Gulshan Police station over the incident.
A Dhaka court on Sunday sent Kawsar Ali on seven-day remand for interrogation about the horrific murder.
Sajjad Hossain, a driver of an embassy, was also shot in the incident. He was undergoing treatment at United Hospital.
During a spot visit on Sunday, Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun told reporters that police recovered 20 rounds of bullets and some bullets shells from the spot.
"We are trying to find out what caused the incident," said the police chief.
It was seen that Kawsar did not try to flee from the scene. At first, he did not allow anyone to go close to him.
He was later arrested by Gulshan police from the crime scene and took him into custody.
Monirul hailed from Atpara upazila of Netrakona district and Kawser from Doulatpur upazila of Kushtia district.
