Cop suspended after deadly M\\\'singh stampede

Police have suspended a sub-inspector (SI) responsible for law and order in the area of Mymensingh where a stampede killed 27 on Friday. Sub-Inspector Saidul Islam, in-charge of Mymensingh Kotwali Police Camp-2, was suspended for dereliction of duty, Mymensingh SP Moinul Haque said on Saturday. The SP said Islam failed to maintain law and order on the Atul Chakravorty Road under Kotwali Police station, where the stampede at the Nurani Jarda factory left 27 people dead. The stampede was triggered by a rush to collect 'Jakat' clothes distributed among the poor by the Nurani Jarda management. The owner of the chewing tobacco factory was arrested along with 7 other people and charged with murder. The area where the factory is situated is under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali Police Camp-2, according to bdnews24.com.
