Coping with climate change a must to raise crop output

Speakers at a city seminar has laid emphasis on increasing crop production coping with climate changes as the global climate is changing continuously.
They said production of crops in Bangladesh must be increased fighting against rough climate, otherwise Bangladesh will soon face a food crisis.
They said this at the international conference on 'Crops Production under Changing Climate in Bangladesh: Agronomic Options' held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) Wednesday.
Bangladesh Society of Agronomy (BSA) organised the seminar. President of BSA Zainul Abedin presented the keynote paper at the function while general secretary of BSA Rafiqul Islam Mondol delivered the speech of welcome.
State minister for Science and Information & Communications Technology Yeafesh Osman was present as chief guest at the function, where FAO representative Ad Spijkers and executive chairman of BARC Wais Kabir attended as special guests.
The minister said the economy of Bangladesh mainly depends on agricultural productions, and so sufficient innovative initiatives must be taken for increasing crop output.
"As Bangladesh stands in a vulnerable position of climate change, members of the agronomy society must play a vital role in helping grow production," said the minister.
He also said optimising steps should be undertaken for crops' production coping with natural calamities in Bangladesh.
