CHATTOGRAM, Feb 26: As many as 17 leaders and workers of the Chittagong University unit BCL and a female outsider were detained from two residential halls along with a firearm and some ammunition in an overnight raid on Monday.
The university authority and the Hathazari police conducted the two-hour raid in the Shahjalal and Suhrawardy Halls of the CU following last Saturday's clashes between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
During the raid the police recovered a local gun, two cartridges and 40 choppers (locally called Ramda) from the halls and also detained a non-married female outsider.
Hathazari police did not give the names but said some of them will be shown arrested for keeping firearm and ammunition in their rooms while other will be released after interrogation.
