The activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a motorcycle procession in the city on Wednesday morning, only to be foiled by the law enforcers a few minutes later. Witnesses said Jamaat-Shibir activists, riding on some motorbikes, took out the procession from Nabisco Intersection under Tejgaon Industrial Police Station around 8am. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and lobbed several rounds of tear gas canisters and fire gunshots in the air to disperse the Jamaat-Shibir procession. However, no casualty was reported. Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Salahuddin of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station said Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a procession in Tejgaon industrial area. Police rushed in and dispersed them. “We seized a motorcycle and a banner,” he said adding that they could arrest none of the activists as they fled the scene before police arrived, according to a news agency.
