Cops, war crimes case accused injured in crash

A bus collided head-on with a police van carrying war crimes suspects on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur district on Wednesday. Two person accused of war crimes case and four policemen were injured in the accident. The injured accused are — Amjad Haji, 88, and Riaz Fakir, 65 — were arrested on Tuesday in Mymensingh for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during Bangladesh’s independence struggles in 1971. Identity of police officials and constables injured in the accident could not be known. Gazipur Naoijor highway police outpost in-charge Sergeant Baharul Islam said Netrakona-bound bus collided head-on with a police van, which was heading towards Dhaka with the two war crimes accused, when it was crossing Bhawal Nation Garden, leaving the six people injured. The injured were rescued and whisked off to a hospital, Sergeant Baharul added, according to a news agency.
