Coronavirus caseload rises to 387,295

23 more die, 1,560 recover

The total number of coronavirus cases increased to 387,295 with 1,209 more people infected afresh in the country in last 24 hours ending on Saturday noon.
According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest single-day infections came from a total of 11,573 samples tested during the same period and the infection rate was 10.45per cent.
At the same time, 23 more patients died of coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 5,646 in Bangladesh which now stands eighth in terms of deaths.
Although the number of infections kept falling in the last couple of months, the rate is still above danger level, according to healthcare professionals.
The health bulletin of the DGHS issued on Tuesday said a total of 12,869 samples were tested across the country since Friday morning.
With the tests, a total of 2,151,702 samples have been so far tested here and the overall infection rate was as high as 18per cent and it was the second highest in South Asia after India.
Of the tests, some 1,209 samples were found Covid-19 positive along with 23 more deaths recorded during the period, it said.
"With these numbers, the overall tally of confirmed cases and deaths rose to 387,295 and 5,646 respectively," the bulletin signed by DGHS additional director general Dr Nasima Sultana said.
Fourteenth of the latest deaths were recorded in Dhaka division, followed by four in Chattogram, two in Barishal , two in Rangpur and one in Khulna division, the bulletin said.
The DGHS data also mentioned that 1,560 patients recovered from Covid-19, taking the entire tally of recoveries to 302,298. The recovery rate rose to 78.05 per cent.
Globally, more than 39.6 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus and 1,110,418 died until 7:15 pm on Saturday, according to Worldometer info on coronavirus.
