Corporate bodies, banks continue relief work among flood-hit

A number of corporate bodies and banks, including Grameenphone Ltd (GP), Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL), Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited (SJIBL), Mutual Trust Bank Limited (MTBL) and Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited (BPL), have been continuing their relief activities among the flood-affected people across the country.
Grameenphone: GP has been engaged in the emergency relief efforts in the flood-affected areas over the last week. Distribution of relief materials including food and other essential items worth over Tk 10 million has started in eight districts in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions.
A number of GP employees have also volunteered to participate in the relief work with members of the joint forces, local government authorities and different CSR partners of GP.
The first phase of the relief distribution concluded Thursday with the total distribution of nearly 10,000 family packs of relief materials, each containing 3-kg rice, 1-kg dal, 1-litre soya-oil, 1-kg flattened rice, 500-gm salt and molasses, three packets of biscuit, three packets of oral saline, six candles and a lighter.
In Dhaka division nearly 3,500 family relief packets were distributed at Keraniganj, Nawabganj, Dohar, Munshiganj, Harirampur, Shingair, Shibalaya and Ghior.
Besides, a total of 1,800 family packets were distributed in Gaibandha district, 2,300 packets in Sirajganj and 900 packets were distributed in Kurigram district over the week.
A total of 1,400 family packets were distributed in Sylhet division. Relief work will be extended to Sunamganj and Hobiganj next week.
In addition, GP handed over cheques of Tk 43.1 million to the Chief Adviser's relief fund. The cheques included one of Tk 20 million from GP, one of Tk 20 million from Telenor and one of Tk 3.1 million from one day's salary of the GP employees. GP is also committed to continue its relief work across the country over the next 10 days.
IBBL: IBBL distributed relief goods worth Tk 15.0 million (1.50 crore) among the flood-affected people.
Besides, Islami Bank Foundation (IBF) also allotted Tk 3.6 million for relief and rehabilitation purpose. IBF Member Secretary Mir Quasem Ali distributed relief materials among 600 flood-affected families in Jhitka Bazar, Bahadurpur and Andharmarilk in Harirampur upazila under Manikganj Wednesday. Among others, IBBL Executive Vice-President and Head of Dhaka Central zone Md Abul Bashar and Manikganj branch Manager Zillur Rahman also attended the function.
IBBL Santhia branch distributed relief materials including rice, potato, salt, saline etc among 800 families of Santhia upazila. IBBL board of directors Vice-Chairman Zainul Abedin, Executive Vice-President Abdul Kader and Santhia branch Manager Abdul Matin attended the function.
The bank's Chandpur branch organised a relief distribution programme, where Chandpur Deputy Commissioner SM Manirul Islam and IBBL Assistant Vice-President and Chandpur branch Manager Md Jasim Uddin distributed relief goods among the flood affected people.
IBBL Kishoreganj branch distributed relief among the flood-hit people in Kailag, Baliadi, Maijchar and Dilalpur unions of Kishoreganj district. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Shafiqur Rahman and IBBL Kishoreganj branch Manager Md Saiful Islam were present in the programme.
The bank's Madaripur branch distributed relief goods among 720 families in Shibchar and Charjanajath unions of this district. IBBL Director Eskandar Ali Khan, Executive Vice-President and Head of Dhaka Central zone Abu Taher Mohammad Saleh and Madaripur branch Manager Md Alauddin Gazi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Habibur Rahman and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Iqbal Hossain were present in this programme.
IBF Nilphamari branch organised a relief distribution programme, where Upazilla Nirbahi Officer Abdus Sabur Mandal and Nilphamari branch Manager Shahjahan Ali distributed relief materials among the local flood affected people.
On the other hand, IBBL Brahmanbaria branch Thursday distributed relief materials including rice, potato, lentil among flood-affected people in the district. IBBL Brahmanbaria branch Manager Solaiman and AL-Hera complex Chairman Nazrul Islam Khadem were present at the relief distribution function.
Shahjalal Islami Bank: SJIBL has allocated Tk 4.0 million to assist the flood-affected people. Of the money, SJIBL relief team has distributed relief materials worth Tk 1.0 million in different flood affected areas.
The team recently distributed five tonnes of rice, two tonnes of dal, 5,000 packet saline, 10,000 water purification tablets, 6,0OO candles and 2,000 fireboxes among thousands of families in Tangail and Sirajganj districts.
Mutual Trust Bank : MTBL, with the assistance of RAB-3, distributed dry food among the waterlogged people of Bashabo under Sabujbagh in the city. Among others, MTBL Managing Director Kazi Md Shafiqur Rahman was present in the programme.
Beximco Pharmaceuticals : The officials of BPL Saturday distributed relief materials among the flood-affected people in Manikganj.
Earlier, the company distributed relief among the flood-hit people in Sirajganj.
The BPL officials and staff distributed 2,000 packets of relief materials among the flood-affected people of the two districts. Each relief pack included 1.5-kg flattened rice, 0.5-kg molasses, one packet biscuit and 10 pieces of water purifying tablets.
BPL Chief Executive Officer Nazmul Hassan said, the relief activities will be gradually extended to Tangail, Bhairab and other areas of the country.
