Corporate houses cashing in on Rajshahi mangoes

RAJSHAHI, June 11: Agents of various companies are purchasing a huge quantity of mangoes from various market places in Rajshahi and other adjoining districts leaving the prices of the summer fruit high this time.
According to sources, agents of the companies are purchasing more than 1,000 tonnes of mangoes per day from various places of Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts and sending those to their companies for processing and export.
Several hundred suppliers of mangoes have also been employed as commission agents to supply mangoes to the agents of those companies.
These suppliers are purchasing mangoes from Chapainawa-bganj Sadar, Bholahat, Kansat, Baneswar, Arany, Charghat, Bagha and Puthia under Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts.
Early this month, those agents purchased green mangoes at throw-away prices and sent those to the companies for preparing pickles.
