FARIDPUR, Nov 04: The soaring prices of essentials have added extra sufferings to the people of the low income and the middle income groups in the district of Faridpur.
Common people are in fix about how they would lead their lives.
"I just earn between Tk 125 and 150 a day. Now it is impossible for me to maintain my family with this poor income due to price hike. I need at least 3 kilogrammes of rice a day for the family. I can hardly manage other commodities with rest of the money," said 55-year-old rickshawvan puller Abdur Rashid of village Sadardi under Bhanga upazila.
Abdur Rashid said, "Last year I earned between Tk 80 and 90 a day and I could maintain the family in a way then. But now I am facing a lot of troubles."
"Though the prices of rice, oil and other daily essential commodities are increasing rapidly, the rate of my daily income does not increase accordingly," Motaleb, a villger said.
Not only Motaleb, many others also find it difficult to run their families with the limited income. Many people have changed their food menus to compromise with the skyrocketing prices.
"We used to eat fish regularly last year when the price was under control. But now we can hardly eat fish as we have been compelled to cut the protein items from our food menu," said Md Hanif Meah, a fruit vendor at Thana Road in the district headquarters.
"At the beginning of the month I have to spend Tk 6000 for paying the house rent, gas, electric and other regular bills from my monthly salary. with the rest of the money, it is hard to buy other essentials," said a government employee seeking anonymity.
Many people said, they could survive if rice was sold at around Tk 20 per kg.
