Cotton-laden truck set afire in Comilla

Suspected Jamaat-Shibir activists, equipped with brick chips and sticks, swooped on passing vehicles on Comilla-Sylhet highway in Debidar Upazila in Comilla district a couple of hours before the 1st phase of 2-day nationwide hartal started on Thursday. They damaged a bus and torched a truck during the attacks. They took out small processions from different areas of Debidar and gathered on the highway in Barura area. Chanting slogans in favour of hartal, the suspected Jamaat-Shibir men hurled brick chips at a bus and attacked the passing vehicle with sticks, leaving it damaged. A few minutes later, they forcibly stopped a cotton-laden truck and torched it. Being informed a firefighting unit from Companiganj Fire Station rushed to the spot and tamed the blaze. Police, Firefighters and the driver of the truck claimed that the extent of loss caused by the fire will be around Tk 2 million (Tk 20-lakh), according to a news agency.
