Councillors to take decision on party reforms: Khaleda

Tuesday, 26 June 2007

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia Monday welcomed any proposal to reform her party, but said, the party's councillors will take the final decision according to the BNP constitution, reports UNB.
She made the remarks in a plain paper statement signed and circulated by BNP Joint Secretary General Goeyshwar Roy from his office in the city's Purana Paltan.
Khaleda's remarks came immediately after BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan announced a draft of the party's reform proposals that virtually showed the door to Khaleda to quit the office of chairperson.
In her remarks, Khaleda said, she welcomes any reform proposal. But she also said, BNP has become a large political party at the cost of blood and hard labour of the BNP leaders, workers and supporters in 68,000 villages across the country.
"For that reason, any proposal seeking amendment of the party constitution will have to be placed before the party councillors. The party council will take the final decision according the party constitution," she added.
In reply to a question, Roy said, Khaleda Zia made the statement to avoid confusion among people, as she was not present at the time of announcing reform proposals by Mannan Bhuiyan.
