Speakers at a seminar strongly urged the people of the country not to worry about the spread of anthrax and not to pay heed to any rumour.
They also said that the country is now completely free from anthrax, a bacterial disease which recently spread in some districts.
They said this Monday at the seminar held at the auditorium of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
The seminar was organised with a view to dispelling confusion and giving a clearer picture on the anthrax situation in the country.
Mahamudur Rahman, director of IEDCR, said that no anthrax affected person was found in the country since mid-September.
"We have arranged the seminar specially bearing in mind the ensuing of Eid-ul-Azha so that the Muslim people can celebrate the Eid by sacrificing animals," he said.
He also said big cities of the country are now completely out of danger.
However, vaccination programme and other necessary activities from the government are going on in full swing especially for safety before the upcoming Eid, Mahamudur said.
He said that social movement along with government initiatives is a must for dispelling rumour about anthrax.
Anthrax is normally originated from herbivorous animals and the main source of the disease is soil not air and so people should no more be afraid of it, he said.
So far none affected with anthrax has died, he added.
Patricia Portela De Souza, communication for development specialist of UNICEF, also advised the countrymen not to be afraid of anthrax.
