COMILLA, Nov 29 (UNB): Claiming that corruption has been the current regime's basic principle, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said on Saturday the country was now under the rule of one person.
"Now the country is not only under a one-party rule, but also sees exploitation ruled by just one person," she told a huge public rally at the Comilla Town Hall ground.
Khaleda said ruling party ministers, MPs and leaders and activists engaged in widespread plundering of public money and graft.
Referring to PM's adviser HT Imam's recent remarks about the January-5 election, she said the adviser divulged how Awami League manipulated the election to grab power illegally.
The BNP chief claimed the government should step down immediately following HT Imam's remarks.
She asked the ruling party to hold a fresh election under a non-party administration, if it thinks people are with it for their good work.
Khaleda said Awami League only talks tall about democracy and development but acts against it.
She regretted that though her government had initiated development of Comilla city, an old and traditional city, Awami League-led government stopped it after assuming office.
The former Prime Minister gave assurance that if her party was voted to power again in future, they would turn Comilla into a modern city.
Starting for Comilla from her Gulshan residence around 10:20am, Khaleda reached Comilla Circuit House around 2pm.
