Country under grip of uniform-less autocracy: BNP

Monday, 9 June 2014

BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Monday alleged that the country is now under the grip of ‘uniform-less autocracy’.
“The Awami League general secretary Sunday said criticism doesn’t suit those who placed budget wearing urdi (uniform) in the past. We want to tell Syed Asharaful Islam that we’d seen autocracy with uniform in the past, but now we see uniform-less autocracy in the country,” he said, according to a news agency.
Addressing a discussion, Fakhrul said the current autocratic regime has turned the entire country into a death valley by resorting to killings, abductions and forced disappearances.
He urged the country’s people to get ready for a strong movement to get rid of the current autocratic regime.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal arranged the discussion at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 33rd death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
Mentioning the involvement of Rab officials in Narayanganj seven murders, Fakhrul reiterated his party’s demand for disbanding the elite force.
He alleged that the current regime has reestablished one-party rule in the country with the 15th amendment to the constitution.
The BNP leader called upon freedom fighters to get united for restoring democracy in the country by unseating the current ‘repressive undemocratic and illegal regime’.
