Country\\\'s 250 schools will get free internet connections by GP

Some 250 schools in the country are going to get free internet connection following an initiative of the telecom operator Grameenphone.
Students of the selected schools will enjoy the opportunity of making themselves acquainted with the information highway through a multi-purpose community learning centre-'Gonokendra' that would be set up in every school, according to the telecom operator.
The activities of the Granmeenphone started on Monday through inauguration of the internet service at the city's Ali Hossain Girls' High School, adjacent to Shankar, West Dhanmondi.
Chairman of Grameenphone Board and Head of Telenor Asia Sigve Brekke launched the service at the school where he talked with the students about the benefit of using Internet.
With the slogan "Internet for All," the top telecom operator is doing the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities for acquainting students with the internet so that they can easily understand the importance of the technology.
Grameenphone spokesperson said objective of this campaign is to create equal opportunity for access to educational content, news, information and knowledge for all.
Under the initiative of "Internet for All" the company is going to provide 2.1 million free Internet hours to 250 schools across the country.
The operator recently signed an agreement with the BRAC to implement the programme in field level.
In the inaugural programme, students of the school participated in a quiz programme.
BRAC's Senior Director of Strategy, Communications and Capacity Asif Saleh, Grameenphone's Head of Strategy Erlend Prestgard, Head of Corporate Communications Tahmeed Azizul Huq, and acting Head Master of Ali Hossain Girls's School Engineer Sajedul Alam were present on the occasion.
