CHITTAGONG, Feb 5 (BSS): Members of the Bangladesh Navy seized country's biggest ever consignment of Yaba tablets from a fishing trawler at the outer anchorage of the Chittagong port early today.
The Navy recovered 1.5 million pieces of Yaba tablets worth Tk 830 million from a fishing trawler, said Commander Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Navy's anti-smuggling cell.
Atiqur Rahman said a patrol team of the Navy asked the trawler plying in the area to stop around 2.30am early Thursday. "The trawler dashed off towards the Anwara Parki beach, instead of stopping, where the gang of smugglers jumped into the water and fled the scene leaving the trawler in an abandoned state," he added.
The officers of the anti-smuggling cell later recovered the Yaba tablets from the abandoned vessel, the commander said adding that this is the largest ever haul of Yaba in the country.
None was arrested in this connection.
