Friday, 16 November 2007

Some 4,85,000 Bangladeshi workers have gone abroad on employment until November 14 this year, according to the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare statistics. Everyday on an average 2,500 to 3,000 are departing for their destinations. So far 7,09,000 have been cleared for immigration, and this number is also increasing daily, a ministry spokesman said. The figure constitutes record numbers. Last year the total number was 3,81,000. The spokesman also said, the flow to Malaysia is also continuing. Every day on an average 900 to 1,000 workers are going there. He said, the government understands that such vast numbers also mean greater problems, and steps are being taken to address the problems so that the hardship is reduced. — UNB
