Countrywide voter list update starts on May 15

The Election Commission will launch the three-phase countrywide update of the voters’ list on May 15.
The work is scheduled to end in December, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad told reporters Monday.
Bangladeshi citizens who will turn 18 on or before January 1, 2015 and the eligible Bangladeshis who missed the current roll will be included in the new voters’ list, said the CEC.
He said the updated voters’ list will be effective in 2015 on completion of necessary procedures like publication of draft rolls to receive public complaints.
The EC expects a five per cent growth in the number of voters since the last list was prepared in 2012. That will add 4.6 million new voters to the current 92 million voters, EC officials said, according to a news agency.
