Couple hacked dead by son-in-law in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, Apr 20 (UNB): A couple was hacked to death allegedly by their son-in-law over dowry at Kamranga village in Sadar upazila early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Iqbal Hossain, 50, and his wife Mamtaz Begum, 40, residents of the same village.
Assistant superintendent of police Kamrul Islam said Sumon Sheikh, a resident of Bagerhat district married Lucky Begum, daughter of Iqbal Hossain five years ago.
Sumon used to torture Lucky for dowry since after their marriage.He came to his father-in-law's house on Sunday night and demanded money as dowry from Lucky's parents.
As a sequel to that, a quarrel took place between them and Sumon chopped them indiscriminately in the dead of night, leaving Iqbal dead on the spot and his wife Mamtaz and their daughter Lucky critically injured.
Later, Mamtaz died on way to Comilla Medical College Hospital. Lucky was admitted to CMCH. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
