Couple killed by covered van in Gazipur

GAZIPUR, July 11 (UNB): A couple were killed after a covered van hit them while they were crossing the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Saturday.
The deceased were identified asRakib Hasan, 35, son of Sekandar Ali Bepari of Uttar Ranipur village under Pirojpur Sadar upazila, and his wifeBithi Akter, 30.
Rakib worked in the Human Resources Department of Denimac Garments Ltd in the Gorgoria Masterbari area of Sreepur municipality.
The couple are survived by their nine-month-old child.
Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Maona Highway Police Station, said the couple were crossing the highway in the Beraiderchala area of Sreepur around noon when an unidentified covered van travelling towards Mymensingh hit them.
Bithi died on the spot, while critically injured Rakib was taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, the OC said.
