Couple killed in Ctg roof cornice collapse

A couple was killed as the wife along with a cornice of the rooftop of a newly-built building fell down upon the husband in Akbar Shah Police Station area in Chittagong city on Thursday. The deceased were identified as schoolteacher Rajib Shil, 42, and his wife assistant food inspector of Hathazari upazila Sanchita Shil, 35. Akbar Shah PS officer-in-charge Abdul Majid said the cornice of the rooftop of the newly-constructed four-storey building at Purba Firoz Shah Colony belonging to the couple broke down along with Sanchita around 6:45am and fell on her husband Rajib standing below while she was plucking flowers from a nearby tree with a stick for worship, leaving both dead on the spot. During the accident, Rajib was lifting the flowers that fell under the tree. On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy, according to UNB.
