Wednesday, 8 July 2015

A Narayanganj court on Wednesday accepted the charge-sheet in two cases filed in connection with killings of 7 people in the district about 15 months ago. The district court accepted the charge-sheet rejecting the naraji (no-confidence) petition filed by Selina Islam Beauty, widow of Narayanganj City Corporation’s Ward 4 councilor and panel mayor Nazrul Islam, one of the victims of the gruesome murders. Judicial Magistrate Saiduzzaman Sharif passed the order accepting the charge-sheet in presence of 32 accused, including three sacked Rab officials – Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana in the courtroom. On May 11, Selina Islam filed the naraji petition expressing her dissatisfaction over the exclusion of the names of five FIR-enlisted accused from the charge-sheet. On April 8, detectives pressed charges against 35 people, including the three sacked Rab officials and Nur Hossain, now in an Indian jail, in connection with the sensational 7 murders. After the killing of 7 people, including Nazrul and the district bar association’s senior member Advocate Chandan Sarkar, Selina Islam filed a case against six people while Chandan’s son-in-law filed another case. On April 27 in 2014, NCC panel mayor Nazrul and his three associates and driver were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area. A few hours after their abduction, senior lawyer of the District Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted in Fatullah on their way to Dhaka. Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30. Besides, the following day, the body of Jahangir, car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river, according to UNB.
