Court asks CPA to preserve evidence of cocaine detection

CHITTAGONG, July 5: A court in Chittagong has asked the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) to properly preserve the evidence of cocaine detection.
The court further said the CPA, Chittagong Customs House, Customs Intelligence and detective police would work together so that investigation into the cocaine detection case goes on properly.
Metropolitan Magistrate Farid Alam said this today after the investigation officer filed a petition with his court. Representatives of the government agencies were present in the court.
Additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (prosecution) Kazi Muttaki Ibne Minan told reporters that the petition was filed with the court for preservation of the evidence.
The court also asked the IO of the case to submit progress report on investigation into the case.
Three persons were picked up from Dhaka and one from Chittagong and put on police remand in connection with the incident. Commercial representative of ready-made garment exporter Mandal Group Atiqur Rahman, manager of Cosco BD Shipping Lines Ltd AK Azad and developer company officer Mostafa Kamal were arrested from Dhaka. Police arrested Golam Mostafa Sohail, manager of Prime Hatchery, a concern of Khan Jahan Ali Group, from Chittagong.
Police on June 06 sealed off a container of sunflower edible oil imported from Bolivia. After opening the container, police and customs intelligence found 107 drums, each containing 185 kilograms of edible oil, but no cocaine.
Liquid cocaine was detected in one of the drums in the lab test at BCSIR and Drug Testing Lab in Dhaka.
Managing Director of Khan Jahan Ali Ltd Nur Mohammed is one of the accused in the case. He, however, said his firm didn't import sunflower oil and didn't issue import L/C (letter of credit).
