Court dismisses CCC mayor's petition

CHITTAGONG, Oct 20 (BSS): The First Joint District Judge Court (Election Tribunal), Chittagong rejected today (Wednesday) a petition of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor M Manzurul Alam Manzu.
Mr Manzu filed the petition seeking dismissal of a case filed against him by his predecessor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury for concealing information in his nomination papers submitted to the Election Commission.
Dismissing Manzu's petition, the court fixed November 11 for submission of written statement by the defendant.
ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury lodged the case in the court of Election Tribunal Chittagong on July 18 against newly elected mayor for concealing information.
In the case Mr Chowdhury alleged that Mr Manzu concealed an incident of power pilferage and was fined Tk 1,723,500 by Power Development Board Magistrate on February 11 in 2007.
