Tuesday, 19 June 2007

A Dhaka court has framed charge against former law minister Moudud Ahmed on allegations of importing wine evading duty and keeping the wine under his possession.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Azizul Haque framed the charge Monday and fixed tomorrow (Wednesday) for taking testimony, reports bdnews24.com.
The judge, at the same time, rejected an appeal for acquittal submitted on behalf of Moudud.
After the judge read out the allegation, Moudud, the former law minister, claimed to be completely innocent and sought justice.
Joint forces seized 32 cans of beer and 16 bottles of foreign wine from Moudud's Gulshan residence on April 13 this year. Gulshan police Sub-inspector (SI) Kabir Hossain filed a case against Moudud.
Gulshan police chief Obaidul Haque submitted the charge sheet on May 25 last.
