Court issues arrest warrant against AL leader Sajeda's son in tax evasion case

A court here Sunday issued arrest warrant against Shahdab Akbar Chowdhury, son of former Awami League (AL) minister Sajeda Chowdhury, in a tax evasion case, reports UNB.brDhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge M Azizul Haque passed the order and fixed September 10 for hearing the case.brThe court's order came after Abdullah Amin, deputy tax commissioner, filed the case against Shahdab for evading tax of Tk 11.9 million (1.19 crore).brAccording to the case, Sajeda's son concealed his income of around Tk 60.4 million (6.04 crore) from 1999 to June 30 of 2006 and did not pay Tk 11.9 million (1.19 crore) as tax on the income.brEarlier, the same court had issued another arrest warrant against Shahdab for amassing wealth illegally. The trial of the case is now going on at the special court in his absence.
