A Dhaka court ordered Sunday judicial investigation into the custodial death of young businessman Mahbubur Rahman Sujan, reports UNB.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zahirul Haque passed the order after victim's wife Mamtaz Sultana Lucy filed a case with the court against 10 people, including officer-in-charge (OC) Salauddin and sub-inspector (SI) Jahidur Rahman Jahid of Mirpur Model thana in connection with the death of her husband in police custody.
The other accused are assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar and constables Asad and Rashedul of the thana and five police sources --Nasim, Palash, Foysal, Khokan and Mithun.
According to the case statement, SI Jahid arrested Mahbubur Rahman Sujan (35), who used to deal in garment scraps, from the city's Shankar area in the early hours on July 13.
After making the arrest, SI Jahid allegedly tortured Sujan brutally in Mirpur thana hajat.
As Sujan fell sick, he was admitted to a local clinic and then shifted to Suhrawardy Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar where doctors declared him dead in the morning of July 13.
