Court orders sending Benazir's household items to CA's Relief Fund

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 23 December 2025

A Dhaka court has directed that household items seized from the Gulshan flats of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, including used and unused clothes, kitchen appliances, crockery and other consumables, be handed over to the Chief Adviser's Relief Fund instead of being auctioned.
The decision came after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) submitted an application on 26 October, requesting that the auction-worthy items be sent for the relief initiative, said the ACC at a press briefing on Monday.
The court heard the petition, along with all supporting documents, before issuing its order.
On 21 August 2024, the court ordered that perishable and other household goods seized from four high-end flats -- 12/A, 12/B, 13/A and 13/B of Rankon Icon Tower in Gulshan -- be auctioned in the presence of a Metropolitan Magistrate.
These properties and items belong to Benazir, his wife and their two daughters, according to the case documents.

These properties and items belong to Benazir, his wife and their two daughters, according to the case documents.
Following that order, the ACC formed a public auction committee and prepared a draft auction notice along with a detailed list of items.
However, the ACC, while reviewing safety and operational challenges in a meeting, noted that publicly hosting an auction inside a populated residential building could pose security risks.
The Commission also argued that sorting, listing and storing large quantities of new and old clothes, utensils and household goods might damage the items, create logistical trouble and delay proceedings.
Citing these obstacles and wider public interest, the ACC decided to seek approval for depositing the items to the Chief Adviser's Relief Fund after retaining sample evidence.
The court granted that request and instructed the appointed receiver to preserve representative samples of the seized materials and submit a report after delivering the remaining goods to the relief fund.
Meanwhile, photocopies of the order have been sent to the relevant authorities for compliance.
