Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said Thursday that court proceedings can't be stopped by calling hartal on the day of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's scheduled appearance before the court, reports BSS.
"BNP has convinced some likeminded Islamist parties to call hartal on October 26 to delay the corruption case filed against Khaleda Zia. The court proceeding will take its normal course. Whatever might be the verdict in the case, Khaleda Zia will have to accept it," he said.
The minister said this while speaking at the extended meeting of Dhaka City Awami League (AL) at its Bangabandhu Avenue office in the city. The meeting was convened to make the public rally to be organised in the capital marking the Jail Killing Day on November 3.
Senior vice-president of Dhaka City AL Faezuddin Miah chaired the meeting, also addressed, among others, by vice-presidents Sheikh Bazlur Rahman and Mukul Chowdhury, general secretary and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram), joint general secretaries Haji Md Selim, MP and Awlad Hossain, organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and publicity secretary Abdul Huq Sabuj.
Terming the hatal called on October 26 a cooked-up game, Quamrul Islam said people are surprised at the hartal call, on the day of court appearance of Khaleda Zia, for capital punishment to Abdul Latif Siddiqui, although Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have already taken action against him relieving him from the cabinet and removing him from party post.
