Court rejects petition for filing case against 9 police officials

A Dhaka Court on Wednesday rejected a petition placed for filing a case against nine police officials over "the attack on pro-BNP lawyers during the road march on September 12" in the Dhaka Judge Court area.
Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka, Md Saifur Rahman, passed the order after holding a primary hearing on the petition.
Earlier on the day, lawyer freedom fighter Md Mohsin Miah, also a former President of Dhaka Bar Association submitted the petition with the court of Md Saifur Rahman against nine police officials.
The accused are --- DMP's Kotwali Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Muhit Kabir Sarneabat, DMP's Lalbagh Zone ADC Shahidul Islam, Kotwali Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Rahman, OC (operation) Nazmul Hasan, OC (investigation) Mehedi Hasan, Sub-inspector Shahabuddin Howlader, constables Mahabub Alam, Abdur Rashid and Ramzan Mollah.
In his complaint, Mohsin Miah alleged that they brought out a peaceful procession, demanding voting rights and restoration of democracy and polls under a caretaker government, but police suddenly attacked them.
In the attack, at least 23 people, including 16 pro-BNP lawyers were injured, the complainant also alleged.
Upon hearing the petition, the magistrate recorded statement of the complainant and said he would pass an order on the issue later in the day.
Mohsin Miah said they will file a revision petition with the court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge in Dhaka against the rejection order.
They will also hold a protest rally on the Dhaka Bar Association premises on today regarding the court decision.
