Court sends SI Zahid to jail

A Dhaka court has sent sub-inspector Zahidur Rahman Khan of Mipur Model Police Station to jail in a case filed in connection with the custodial death of a young trader. Metropolitan Magistrate Nuru Miah passed the order on Saturday after SI Zahid refused to confess to his involvement in the death of one Mahbubur Rahman Sujan in police custody. DB police produced Zahid before the court on completion of his 2-day remand with a prayer to record his confessional statement. Following the petition, the magistrate gave Zahid some time to be ready to give the statement. However, the police officer declined to confess his part in the custodial death when the magistrate called him to give his statement after 2 hours. Later, the court sent him to jail, according to a news agency.
