Court sends Sylhet JCD men to jail

Wednesday, 27 August 2014

A Sylhet court has sent three activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) to jail rejecting their prayers for bail in a case over death of an auto-rickshaw driver. Judge of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 Anwarul Haque passed the order when the three accused surrendered before the court and sought bail on Tuesday afternoon. A group of JCD activists allegedly beat up Soyed and vandalised his auto-rickshaw in Silam union of South Surma Upazila during a hartal enforced by the then BNP-led 18-party alliance on December 5, 2013, leaving him seriously injured. Soyed was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the next day, according to a news agency.
