Court takes cognizance of charges against 9

A Dhaka court Tuesday took cognizance of the charges against eight people, including Mufit M Jasimuddin Rahmani, chief of Islamist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, in the blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider killing case, reports UNB.
The other charge-sheeted accused are Faisal Bin Nayeem alias Dwip, Maksudul Hasan alias Anik, Mohammad Ehsan Reza alias Rumman, Nayeem Sikder alias Irad, Nafiz Imtiaz, Sadman Yasir Mahmud and Redwanul Azad alias Rana - all former students of North South University (NSU). Of the accused, Redwan is on the run while the others are in jail custody.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sabrina Ali accepted the charges after scrutinising the case diary and relevant documents. The court also issued warrant of arrest against Redwanul Azad alias Rana and fixed the date of hearing for March 20.
On January 28, charges were pressed against Mufit M Jasimuddin Rahmani and seven others in the case.
Rajib, known as 'Thaba Baba' in the blogger community who was also an active activist of Shahbagh protests, had been hacked to death in front of his house in Palashnagar in the capital's Mirpur on February 15, 2013.
Later, Rajib's father Nazim Uddin filed a case with Pallabi Police Station in the city.
