Court upholds ex-DIG's graft case jail verdict

The High Court (HC) on Sunday upheld a lower court judgment that had convicted and sentenced former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid to five years in prison and fined him Tk 0.5 million in a graft case.
The HC bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal delivered the verdict after hearing Bazlur Rashid's appeal petition against his conviction, said lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan. He appeared in the court hearing representing the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On October 23 last year, a Dhaka court sentenced former DIG Prisons Bazlur Rashid, who was dismissed from the prison authority, to five years imprisonment in a case filed against him for acquiring wealth beyond his known income.
He was also fined Tk 0.5 million.
