Covid-19 fatalities continues to climb

The number of fatalities continued to jump as the death toll due to coronavirus infections crossed 4,500 deaths in Bangladesh until Monday noon, official data showed.
With 37 more patients ending up their battle for life in the past 24 hours, total fatalities reached 4,516, according to the directorate general of health services (DGHS).
Of the deaths, 2,184 were recorded in Dhaka division followed by Chattogram (966), Khulna (378), Rajshahi (299), Rangpur (212), Sylhet (205), Barishal (175) and Mymensingh (97).
On the global perspective, Bangladesh now ranks eighth and 29th in terms of fatalities in Asia and the world respectively, according to worldometer.info that provides real-time coronavirus statistics.
The DGHS revealed that 2,202 more fresh people tested positive for coronavirus disease, taking the total caseload to 327,359.
However, the infection rate continued to drop with 19.90 per cent as of Monday.
On 182nd day since the detection of the first coronavirus case on March 08, the number of COVID-19 tests reached 1,644,724.
According to Monday's health bulletin on coronavirus by the DGHS, a total of 15,412 samples were tested across the country since Sunday noon.
Of the tests, 2,202 samples were found COVID-19 positive along with 37 more deaths countrywide during the period, it mentioned.
"With these numbers, the overall tally of confirmed cases and deaths rose to 327,359 and 4,516 respectively," said the bulletin signed by DGHS additional director general Dr Nasima Sultana.
Of the deaths, 48.36 per cent were recorded in Dhaka division followed by Chattogram (21.39 per cent), Khulna (8.37 per cent), Rajshahi (6.62 per cent), Rangpur (4.69 per cent), Sylhet (4.54 per cent), Barishal (3.88 per cent) and Mymensingh (2.15 per cent).
At the same time, the DGHS also cited that 3,298 patients recovered, taking the entire tally of recovery to 224,573.
The recovery rate rose to 68.60 per cent.
Globally, more than 27.3-million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 893.465 have died until 5:30 pm on Monday, according to Worldometer.
