Cox's Bazaar hotel evades Tk 100m tax

Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has unearthed Tk 100 million tax evasion by Hotel Seagull of Cox's Bazaar. Intelligence officials Thursday inspected the hotel and seized related documents and materials. Tarique Rahman, senior joint secretary general of BNP had inaugurated the luxurious hotel in 2002 when he held a conference of Jubadal at the hotel. Seagull Hotel has 182 well-equipped guestrooms and suites (regular rooms 120, deluxe rooms 41, suite rooms 20 and presidential suite 01). Masum Iqbal, USA expatriate, who hails from Khulna owns the hotel. He also owns White House restaurant at Shantinagar in Dhaka city. —UNB
