Cox's Bazar and the Sundarbans for 7 wonders

Saturday, 30 August 2008

IT is very heartening that Cox's Bazar and the Sundarbans topped the Seven Wonders of the world reportedly under the voting system for the same. The Bangladeshi internet users mobilised people to vote in favour of these two most attractive places of our country in the internet-based voting.

Indeed, all the Bangladeshis will be able to celebrate if the two places remain at the top when the voting ends next year. And then our country will be among the most attractive places for tourism. But are we preparing Cox's Bazar and the Sundarbans as the world's most attractive tourism spots?

Certainly not. The way the beauty of Cox's Bazar and the Sundarbans is being spoiled we cannot present the two spots as attractive as they should be. All have seen how the Cox's bazaar, the resort city lost its beauty. Cox's Bazar has the longest natural beach in the world. But indiscriminate dumping of waste is harming its beach. Hospitality service is also not up to the mark to attract world class tourists. Without proper planning, it cannot have the needed facilities. If we really want the two places to be at the top, there is a need to take immediate steps to prepare them for drawing increasing number of tourists.
