Cox\\\'s Bazar sea beach in jeopardy

Maskurul Alam | Saturday, 3 May 2014

The Cox's Bazar sea beach is one of the natural beauties in this world. Thousands of tourists are visiting this spot every day from home and abroad. This natural beauty captivates anyone and could mitigate the mental anguish of a man in a moment. No one can draw away his mind from its natural beauty. Bangladesh government is earning a handsome amount of money from this tourist spot. In spite of earning a colossal sum of money from this tourism, the government showed ignorance several times in near past due to the poor security. As a result a good number of unexpected incidents are taking place near the sea beach. The drowning of two boys in recent past created a number of questions about the security measures of this spot. Many people went missing while they were swimming near the beach.
The frequent missing and drowning of people are now a cause of concern for the tourists. If it goes on for a long time, the foreigners will refrain from visiting the spot and the country's income will be hampered a lot.
An effective safety plan with modern warning and launce awareness drive is a crying need for the government to avert danger in the country's attractive hotspot Cox Bazar. A research can be conducted on this sea beach analyzing the safety measures taken by the other countries in the world to ensure safety for tourists so that tour for recreation and fun does not end up in such news.
The beach committee can play a significant role to avert such incidents that create awareness and identify the dangerous places of this sea beach. They can create a barrier to protect tourists from the danger places like other tourism of spots this world.
Many analysts believe that three safety measures must be there in the beach -- lifeboat, life guard, specialist swimmers to assist tourists -- but it is a matter of concern that there is a huge lack of these opportunities in this sea beach which is becoming a cause of fear for the tourists. It is unfortunate that cheaper lifeboats are also not available there. If the authorities of this spot had kept enough lifeboats, the tourists would have used these lifeboats to avert danger. It is necessary to take steps to specify some zones like a foreign zone, swimming zone, sports zone so that tourists cannot use other places without the permission of the authority.
Local business people, elite, police, coast guard and administration need to play significant roles in keeping the tourists safe. It's usual for young people to be adventurous but it is also true that risk is associated with such adventure. The incidents of drowning and missing in Cox's Bazar sea beach and St Martin's Island simply leave a discouraging note for the tourists both home and abroad. It is high time to analyze and make sure safety is not weighed down. Otherwise this sea beach will lose its tourists and the country will also be deprived of from foreign currency as well as income from domestic sources.
