CP computerised container handling to cost Tk 600m

CHITTAGONG, Mar 28: Container handling at Chittagong Port (CP) is being computerised at a cost of over Tk 600 million.
With the introduction of the very latest computerised system in the maritime world, disciplined container handling at the premier port of the country would be ensured, sources said.
Besides creating dynamism in the port activities, berthing time of the vessels would be shortened significantly and shipping sector of the country would be relieved of incurring huge losses worth millions of taka on being equipped with the state of art technology.
Singapore-based organisation M/S S.T. Electronics Pvt. Ltd. has been assigned with the task of implementation of the project. It would install the system at CP and also take over the responsibility of its maintenance for five years.
Meanwhile, CPA has assigned an American company as consultant of the project. It would take around one and a half years for launching the computerised system.
Acting chairman of CPA captain Jobayer Ahmad and Singapore-based S.T. Electronics business director Mark E. Tisong signed an agreement on Wednesday for their respective organisations.
