CPB leader Haider Akbar Khan Rono dies

Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) advisor, veteran leftist politician and valiant freedom fighter Haider Akbar Khan Rono passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city early Saturday at the age of 82, reports BSS.


He died at 2:05 am, CPB central committee member Jolly Talukder told the news agency.
He is survived by his only daughter Rana Sultana and a host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.
Rono was born on August 31, 1942 in Kolkata. He was involved with the Communist Party's activities in 1960 when he was a student of Physics Department at Dhaka University. From 1963 to 1965, he was elected general secretary of the 'East Pakistan Students Union'. In 1966, he directly got involved in the labor movement.
