Crackdown on raw jute hoarding begins

FE Online Report | Sunday, 1 November 2015

The government has launched a crackdown on hoarders of raw jute in a bid to prevent any artificial crisis in supply of the raw material in the domestic market.
The Department of Jute (DoJ) started the drive against stockists as suspected hoarding has led to a supply crunch of the golden fibre for the jute millers. The prices of raw jute also increased to a four-year high this fiscal year, traders said.
The DoJ has made a list of 50 hoarders so far and mobile court operation has started helping increase supply of the fibre in the local market, officials said. -NZF
