Create mass awareness to check high incidence of heart disease

Saturday, 1 December 2007

President Prof Iajuddin Ahmed has urged the country's cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to launch massive public awareness programmes to check high incidence of heart disease, reports UNB.
"Every year, the number of deaths are alarmingly increasing due to cardiovascular diseases," the President said at the inaugural session of the Second International Conference on Updates on Management in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery at Sheraton Hotel in the city Friday.
Organised by Lab Aid Cardiac Hospital, the function was also addressed by Health Adviser Major Gen (Retd) Dr ASM Matiur Rahman, Managing Director of Lab Aid Cardiac Hospital Dr AM Shamim and its Chairman Dr M Jalaluddin.
As the treatment of cardiovascular disease is very expensive and most of the people of the country cannot afford the expense, Dr Ahmed called for enhancing research works on this particular issue to bring down the death rate caused by cardiovascular disease.
He said South-Asian countries are likely to be affected badly by increasing trend of cardiovascular disease.
