Creating mass awareness about natural disasters stressed

The natural disasters can be narrowed in Bangladesh by increasing mass awareness and disseminating information among the people about the calamities, speakers said at a human chain.
Prof Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, Director of Centre for Disaster and Vulnerability Studies, said, "To diminish landslide and earthquake the use of underground water should be minimised."
He also stressed the need for modernisation of the curriculum in the text book about natural disasters.
Natural disasters and not man-made, so mass awareness among man about this tragedy can reduce calamities, Green Belt Secretary General Jashim Katabi said.
Green Belt Trust organised the human chain marking the day of international reduction of the disaster, at the altar of Aparajeo Bangla of the Dhaka University at 11:00am Tuesday.
Among others CDVS Chairman Mokaddem Hossain, Prof Mahmuda Khatun, Prof Kamrul Hasan spoke at the programme.
