Cricket: Beware of the triumverate
Tuesday, 28 January 2014
The sports-loving people of our country are astonished to learn about the controversial draft proposal of a two-tier test system by three test-playing nations - India, Australia and England. The two-tier draft, if passed, would be a deadly knock for Bangladesh Cricket Team, which is currently at the bottom of the ten-team Test ranking.
The proposal has created huge uproar in the local and international media and many sports lovers have already expressed their disgust by protest. It is only the beginning and stronger protest will be launched if India, Australia and England go ahead with such elitist idea. Cricket is a popular game in our country and International Cricket Council (ICC) should take initiatives to make it popular in the other countries like China, the
USA etc.
Instead of making it popular, ICC is trying to shrink the burgeoning popularity of the game which is really baffling. If more countries join to play cricket, it will spread the game globally and increase competitiveness in the international cricket. Cricket has been losing its popularity because of match fixing and batting scandals.
During this precarious time of the game of gentlemen we are noticing totally opposite steps are being taken which will only do more harm to this game. Field of cricket should be expanded to every corner of the world instead of shrinking it.
