'Criminal' dies in Satkhira 'gunfight'

SATKHIRA, Apr 29 (UNB): A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Abaderhat area of Sadar upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Nabab Ali, son of Mujib Molla of Bakchora village in the upazila, also an accused in 15 cases including murder and robbery.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted drive around 4 am in the area, said Maruf Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
Sensing presence of police, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
Later, the law enforcers recovered the body from the spot.
Police also recovered a foreign pistol, one round bullet and four machetes, said the OC.
The OC also claimed that sub-inspector Ibrahim Khalil and two constables Ashik and Tuhin sustained injuries during the gunfight.
