Saturday, 19 July 2014
A suspected criminal was killed in a gunfight between his associates and police at Hatirjheel in the city's Rampura area early Friday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Apan, 26. Noticing a private car moving in a suspicious way, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police, led by its Assistant Commissioner Azad, intercepted a white colour vehicle carrying some criminals in Hatirjheel area around 3:30 am, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DB (Public Relations).
Sensing them to be law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting the DB men to retaliate with firing, which triggered a gunfight.
Apan was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries while his associates got away.
