Croatia finance minister sacked over tax deal

Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Tuesday sacked his finance minister for approving a tax deal which he said damaged the state budget. The move comes as the European Union's newest member is struggling to revive its recession-hit economy and introduce fiscal discipline. Finance Minister Slavko Linic "does not enjoy my trust any more," Milanovic told reporters. Linic, 64, was sacked for backing a 2013 tax deal in which the finance ministry purchased land from a troubled local wood processing firm in exchange for its tax debt, according to AFP.
