Crops worth Tk 15.5b damaged in six southern districts

BARISAL, Nov 26 (BSS): Standing crops worth Tk 15.5 billion (1,550 crore) had been damaged in six southern districts under Barisal Agriculture Extension Zone (BAEZ) by the cyclone 'SIDR' and water surge on November 15 last.
According to an official source, on an average 41 per cent of the total standing crops and 746,654.14 tonnes of various crops had been destroyed totally in the districts of Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Patuakhali, Barguna and Bhola.
The highest loss was 73 per cent in Barguna and lowest 29 per cent in Bhola districts.
The crops that had been damaged included broadcasting Aman, Boro seedbeds, different types of vegetables, pulses, mustard, wheat, betel-leaves, coconuts, nuts and others, the source added.
